How do I know if my miniture palm tree is dead?

At work we have a miniture palm tree that consists of 3 seperate trees. Two of the look great and are very firm through the trunk, the third one has lost all of its palms. It is still firm towards the base of the trunk but the upper half feels softer to the touch in comparison and squishy in parts. Is the tree still alive or is it savable? Or do I just need to remove the third tree?

It's dead--remove it. It's probably root rot from being overwatered. If it's a disease, hopefully it is holed up in the dead section and not in the soil. It might be a good idea to replace the soil.
