How to start producing beats with pro tools?

Here's a little about me. I'm a lyrical rapper coming out of the Chicago burbs. I want to also start producing my own beats but I'm really not too sure where to start.

I want to use pro tools as I heard it's the most complicated but best program to use. How hard is it to navigate with pro tools? Also, out of curiosity, what type of software do big time producers such as Kanye, Just Blaze, Alchemist, Ryan Leslie, Cool & Dre, and Zaytoven use?

And in general what do you need to produce? A synthesizer, a drum machine, pro tools, what else? Also, what kind of computer should I be using. A laptop or a desktop if it matters. Just looking for some insight on how to start producing. I'm 18 but I've got a feel for music and think I could get pretty far with it.

pro tools is considered best, because most famous pop producers use it, but it's not really necessary, the question is are you going to connect external instruments like synthesizer, if yes, then pro tools is the best. Personally i don't use any external instruments i just make beats and import samples. Most underground dope music beats are made with Cubase or Logic, so i strongly recommend start with one of these and it is not as hard as pro tools. As for Fruity Loops... it might be the easiest program to use and easiest sampling, but is really frustrating to get any sound quality you want, the only producer i know is 9th wonder who can make something out of FL, but you notice his beats are all the same and too much banging. So you will waste a lot of time on this with no luck believe me, i wasted 1 year, this program is for making samples, not beats. After i got Cubase things started to sound as i wanted. Some people use both, they open FL in Cubase (or Logic) as vst for sampling and make beats with Cubase and they save a lot of time.. btw if you start using pro tools right away you Will Not get any far in a loooong time...
