I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

It is called a Fur Saver, and yes its a type of choke collar.

note: Im not asking what the size of the one in the picture is......just if your German Shepherd has one, how many inches is it ??

Depends - if you are only ever going to have a GSD bit.ch, 64cm/25inches should be long enough. But if you intend having a dog you will need the "necklace" to be at least 69cm/27". The beauty of a straight-link slip-chain is that it is adjustable PROVIDED:
(a) it is long enough, and
(b) every link is wide enough to allow the round tongue of your leash's horse-clip to go through.

I use that sort of light-weight titanium-steel straight-link slip-chain for everything from pups taking their first on-leash walk, to experienced adults. I don't often "lock" it to size, but when I need to tether a pup to a pole or some such while I go into a shop I simply take the ring the horse-clip is attached to and drag it in the opposite direction, so that the chain through the OTHER ring is doubled back. When the chain is tight enough that there is no way the pup can shake it off by lowering its head & shaking, I put the tongue of the horse clip through whichever link it has reached. That "locking" also ensures that there is no way the pup can choke itself.

So go for any long "fur-saver" available, provided it IS long enough for an adult. In my country, pet-shops and vets ignore the sensible "fur-savers" and stock those horrible "twisted-snake" things that cut the fur and cannot be locked to size. The "twisted snake" doesn't even make the nice jangle-sound I use as an audible signal to a dog walking out in front of me.
