Getting Your First Tattoo

Are you interested in getting a new tattoo? Whether it is your first one or just another one you would like to have added somewhere on your body, you can have great work done at your local tattoo shop. Before you go to the shop, spend some time thinking about exactly what it is that you would like to get on your body.

Choosing Your Next Design

There are many different types of tattoo styles to choose from. Some of the most popular styles that people often choose when they want to have work done include realistic, new traditional and old school. You will need to decide whether you want any of those three styles or one of the other different styles available.

While it is important to choose a style, you also need to decide what you want the design to look like. Some people choose designs that they find on the internet. You may want to use Google to search for different images to give you some inspiration. There are images of animals, anchors, stars and assorted flowers that you may find and feel inspired by when you look at them.

It is possible that you will find a design that you love during your search. However, if there is nothing that catches your attention, you can always have the tattoo artist sketch something up for you based on exactly what you describe to him or her. It always a good idea to consult with the tattoo artist ahead of time to talk about what it is that you want to have done.

Consulting With the Artist

When you arrive at the consultation, discuss any colors you want to be used. Decide if you would like to have fish, flowers or even handwriting included with the tattoo. If you are getting a portrait inked on your skin, make sure to supply the tattoo artist with a clear picture of the person’s face you would like to have on your body.

The tattoo artist will sketch a beautiful design and show it to you before placing the stencil on your body. If you love the way the design looks, the process can begin. The artist will need to place the stencil on the specific area where you want the tattoo, such as your arm, ribs or even your back. He or she will then wear the protective gloves and grab the sterile equipment needed to get started, such as shading and liner needles.

The amount of time it takes to complete will depend on the complexity of the design and how fast the artist works. Some designs only take an hour while others may take several hours or several sessions because they are so large and full of color. You may feel a bit of a pain during your tattooing session. As long as you get something that you like and want to see on your body for the rest of your life, the pain that you may experience will be worth it.
