Is it normal for a tattoo to go numb?
Iv had the tattoo for 3 months, Im an apprentice for tattooing but I have never had a question or experience like this. The tattoo I have is of an old sailor jerry collins tattoo a spanish girl good tribute, fully shaded and colored. its been healed for over 3 months now.
When I rest on my arm the entire tattoo goes numb and doesn't return feeling until i move my arm and rub it, Iv never had this problem before the tattoo. So I really don't know what it could be, I asked my boss but I never got an answer. Could it just be the tattoos like scar design cutting off the blood to the skin? Or is it something else, It doesn't happen on any other tattoo I have and im half sleeved on my other arm.
So does anyone know if this is normal or what is causing it? I searched couldn't find anything on it.
Could be a number of things. Are you sure it's just the tattooed area going numb, or is it the area of the arm in general? If you're just learning to tattoo, then what comes to mind is a change in how you move your shoulders and hold yourself up while tattooing. When tattooing, is the hand you use to tattoo the same as the arm of the tattoo? It could be as simple as your body adjusting to different positions of work. You may be straining yourself and not knowing it. It is good to stretch daily given what we do. What kind of chair or stool do you use? Many things can factor into how you're feeling which are all related to tattooing. When doing larger pieces, give yourself a break after a while so that you can move a bit.
